I wish to mention the offers of support and accommodation made by members of the public to Ukrainians who are coming into the country. Recently I have had a number of...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Withdrawal from Irish Banking Market (Resumed): Engagement with Financial Services Union and Electric Ireland (25 May 2022)
Maria Byrne: I thank the delegation for the presentation. When we had representatives from the banks before us I was talking about how some older people find direct debits very hard to set up or in switching accounts. There is a unique mandate reference with a direct debit so would that make communication easier for some people when they go to the other bank?

Maria Byrne: It is a unique reference number when payment is made to a company like Electric Ireland from my bank account. It links the debit to the bank.

Maria Byrne: A number of companies such as Ward Solutions approached some of the larger companies like Electric Ireland to see if people's direct debits could be transferred between banks and organisations like Electric Ireland. Would the company be interested in participating in a joint transfer with other companies if the banks were in a position to do that? Has the company had any discussions around...

Maria Byrne: I wish to acknowledge the fact that University Hospital Limerick, UHL, and the University of Limerick, UL, are very much involved in clinical trials. On 19 May, they celebrated Clinical Trials Day. Clinical trials are so important from a research perspective, especially for very sick children. I want to acknowledge the work of all involved. It is really important to say, "Thank you", to...

Maria Byrne: I thank the Minister of State, Deputy English, for coming to the House today to discuss the all-important matter of the shortage of pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians. A pharmacist Limerick, who...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Pharmacy Services (19 May 2022)
Maria Byrne: I thank the Minister of State very much. I was of the understanding the IPU had been in consultation, but obviously it has not. I appreciate this will be opening shortly because, certainly, it is not just affecting my area; it is affecting areas throughout the country. Their union was actually calling for pharmacists...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (19 May 2022)
Maria Byrne: I welcome two good news stories for Limerick and the mid-west. One relates to the €10 million investment by Ryanair in hangar 5 at the airport, where 200 high-end jobs are to be created. This investment relates to servicing Ryanair's aircraft. By 2026, the airline will have many more aircraft in the air so there will be a significant increase in the number of jobs created, these...

Maria Byrne: I thank the witnesses for their presentations. I was upstairs earlier so I listened online. Most of the questions I had have been covered. There are one or two questions I would like to ask. I wish to support the family that wrote to every member of the committee. I know Mr. Jansen gave a commitment that the bank will correspond with or meet the family. I believe a number of people are...

They now have to deal with another bank. I am looking...
