Dessie Ellis: It is clear to everyone, apart from the Government, that the housing strategy is in tatters. The Minister, Deputy Coveney, promised to end the use of hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation for families by this July.

Dessie Ellis: The Government's house building figures have been rubbished. The new Minister, Deputy Eoghan Murphy, has today acknowledged that the July figures are not achievable. Meanwhile, the homelessness and housing crisis and the waiting lists have continued to spiral.

Dessie Ellis: The alternative would be that they would have to back to the planners and request a change of use. Is that the normal procedure?

Dessie Ellis: There seem to be a huge number of applications for student accommodation. There is one on Gardiner Street and more coming on stream in Ballymun. This might help the short-term situation.
