Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: Will Mr. McLean consider coming back to the committee with that information? It would be very helpful. Will he consider coming back to the committee to identify the locations of the 606 properties identified earlier? Regarding the maintenance schedule, the DAA does notify, by and large. It sends emails and puts information up on the website. I thank the witnesses for that. I have...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: My next point is on cleanliness at the airport. It has been fined for the condition of toilets and other facilities. How has it gone about rectifying this or making sure it does not happen again? Although I admit it has been a while since I was in terminal 1, I believe there are a couple of loos there that I would walk to terminal 2 to avoid. Does the DAA have plans to upgrade certain areas?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: My final question is on the experience passengers had in 2022. I assume we are a million miles from that and that we do not envisage a repeat of it.

International Protection, Asylum and Migration: Motion (18 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: I appreciate the opportunity to participate in this debate. Immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing the international community. We can see this across European member states, the UK and within our own country. Therefore, I welcome the Government's decision to opt into the EU migration and asylum pact. It is not only a necessary agreement, but one that will lead to a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank our witnesses this morning very much. I really only have one interrelated question to the one already posed. Do the regulations go far enough to stamp out built-in obsolescence of consumer products? It is an issue I firmly aware of in the computer area with the extreme difficulty in repairing certain products. As was highlighted by Mr. McGreal with regard to the regulation and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: Within Mr. McGreal's Department, would that capture the necessity for something as simplistic as the move to generic power cables to be used, for instance, on phones and other devices? There are occasions, even today, when those cables are not cross-compatible. There are devices whose manufacturers have their own view of the quality of particular cables, especially USB-C cables. There are...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: Mr. McLoughlin might have a view.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)

Alan Farrell: Is it a narrative, though? That is the question. I have also heard what has been said. From my experience – again, I will not name brands – I believe that from time to time there might be some truth to the online narrative that certain devices, particularly phones, slow down or are unable to compete with the newest or latest models. Is Mr. McLoughlin suggesting that the...

Alan Farrell: I wish Mr. O’Leary and the other witnesses a good afternoon and thank them for appearing before us. I thank Mr. O'Leary for his usual enigmatic appearance before the committee. I compliment him on the success of his business and there is no doubt we have a lot to be grateful with regard to what Ryanair has done for the airline market in Ireland over the past number of decades. I do...

Alan Farrell: Mr. O'Leary mentioned the 514,000 seats he has written to the Minister about. Will Mr. O'Leary inform the committee his understanding of the outline of the regulatory arrangement the Minister presides over, when he is looking to expand with new slots and destinations? What is the process? In a scenario where there was no cap, how would Ryanair go about applying for those?
