While a school might not necessarily qualify for DEIS, the Department looks outside the box a little bit to other schools so that more children are gathered. They might not fit all of the DEIS criteria but they might be able to get the benefit of it. The Department is doing this with 140 additional schools.

The Minister looked for it and it came out of a retrospective allegation. That is where this all came from. I am seeing an anomaly here. An ICT system has been built but does not address retrospective cases. We do not have the protocol...

Anne Rabbitte: I thank Mr. Quinlan for his response. If Tusla is to take on this role, does it have the necessary expertise to do it or, at least, the capacity to train or recruit staff to do it? I note from the report that there is a shortage of this particular skillset to enable Tusla deal with persons that would come forward.
