- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)
Robert Troy: It is welcome in a sense that the Minister is here again. It is disappointing that he needed to come back here, only four weeks after his last visit. On the last day he said that he would share with us the NTA's review into the licensing system. Perhaps the review is full of commercially sensitive information that he might need to redact. Four weeks ago he promised that we would receive...

Robert Troy: The subvention is lower now than it was in 2008 despite the fact that the Minister has acknowledged this morning that the number of people availing of the service has increased by 9% in the last year alone.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)
Robert Troy: I made a number of statements. The Minister has answered the one question I asked. The rate of subvention has not kept in line with the numbers using the route. A number of months ago, when we suggested some of these routes would...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)
Robert Troy: The NTA stated it might need to put them out to tender. I presume that before coming here today the Minister would have asked whether they needed to be put out to tender and cited it as a victory and an answer to the problem. Surely, he should know whether they need to be put out to tender. Surely he would have asked when it would be put into operation.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)
Robert Troy: Therefore, it does not need to be put out to tender. My lack of confidence in the Minister to date stems from the fact that he has not got involved, but he can redeem himself by establishing a forum for all stakeholders. The unions and management cannot address the huge deficit. We need matters of policy, legislation and the licensing regime to be addressed. Only the Minister can do this...
