Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Could Mr. Kelly find out that information?

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: It would have been prior to the publication of RTÉ's top earners on 15 February 2023. What I am trying to get at here is that Mr. Tubridy would have seen this €150,000 come into his account. He would have then seen that it was not represented in the payments as published in February 2023. I know he has apologised for it before but-----

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Which years did the invoices relate to?

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Part of the earnings that were published in February 2023 would have been related to 2021 as well.

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I have one minute left so I will move on. In July 2020, Mr. Tubridy got a letter addressed to him from the then director general, Dee Forbes, stating, "The purpose of this correspondence is to record in writing our guarantee and undertaking that the fees set out in this Agreement will be paid by RTÉ without any reductions and RTÉ shall not make any request or enquiry from you in...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Mr. Tubridy received a letter from the director general that no other member of staff or employee, to my knowledge, would have received. Does that not scream special treatment?

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: That is not really what I am asking.

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: That is fair. My last question is to Mr. Tubridy. In his opening statement he said he took a 20% pay cut. I thought Deputy McAuliffe's questioning earlier very clearly outlined that in fact, this was not a 20% pay cut because those €75,000 invoices were coming from RTÉ. They were underwritten by RTÉ, coming from the licence fee holder and the taxpayer and going into Mr....

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Now Mr. Tubridy knows how it worked. It was an underwriting. Those two €75,000 invoices were underwritten by RTÉ, paid for by RTÉ, the taxpayers and TV licenceholders to Mr. Tubridy's account. Does he not accept that he actually has not taken a 20% pay cut because it represents much less than that?

Written Answers — Department of Health: General Practitioner Services (11 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: 704. To ask the Minister for Health the steps he is taking to address the shortage of GPs in the west Cork area (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33609/23]

Progress on the National Parks and Wildlife Service: Statements (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: We will keep the love-in going for the Minister of State.

Progress on the National Parks and Wildlife Service: Statements (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I wholeheartedly agree with Deputy Leddin's comments on what the Minister of State has achieved. Deputy Leddin spent his entire statement speaking about how great the Minister of State is. I will not do that. These are statements on progress in the National Parks and Wildlife Service and, by God, there has been incredible progress in the organisation. I know it is an organisation in which...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Planning Issues (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: The reason I brought up this matter is twofold. Similar to Deputy Canney, I am aware of the difficulty young people have in getting planning, the hoops they have to jump through and the back and forth involved in trying to get planning. Sometimes they are not successful. There is another aspect of this on which we had a debate recently in the Dáil. We even had a vote on it. I...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Parks (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I support Deputy Aindrias Moynihan. The Gearagh is a magical place. While it is only up the road from Clonakilty, it takes me about an hour to get there. I was lucky enough to see the penduline tits there. What is a penduline tit says you? The first penduline tit ever recorded in Ireland landed in the Gearagh last year. An incredibly rare Eurasian bittern was also found there. The...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Planning Issues (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: 29. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if he is undertaking any review of rural planning guidelines; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33191/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: The Minister has described the situation perfectly. We went there with news that these two schemes could be availed of by the local authority. I think we all took heart from that because I do not see how you could get more urgent than a situation in which sewage is coming up through the surface of a children's play area, which has been closed. Shannon Vale is not a big village. It has...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: 10. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the measures he has put in place to improve water services since June 2020; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33190/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I wish to ask the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage about the measures he has put in place to improve water services since June 2020; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Water Services (6 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the Minister for his response. I have seen first-hand the difference the investment in Uisce Éireann and in water services has made in many towns in my constituency, such as Castletownbere, which has a brand-new wastewater treatment plant. Others include Courtmacsherry and Timoleague; the state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant in Castletownshend near Skibbereen has just...

Ceisteanna - Questions: National Economic and Social Council (5 Jul 2023)

Christopher O'Sullivan: 20. To ask the Taoiseach if he will report on the work of the National Economic and Social Council, a statutory agency operating under the aegis of his Department. [32844/23]
