Water Quality. (11 Mar 2009)

Seymour Crawford: I concur with the Minister about the efforts to control pollution from agricultural waste. The scheme has been of great significance but, unfortunately, 50% of farmers have to wait for a much longer time for their grants. What percentage of the grant does the Department pay towards local authority schemes? I refer in particular to the scheme in Carrickmacross, of which the Minister is...

Order of Business (5 Mar 2009)

Seymour Crawford: Given that the HSE is spending millions of euro on public relations groups to promote its own propaganda, when will the health information Bill be delivered so that we can obtain truthful and proper information? In light of the severe economic circumstances faced by some people who are using unfortunate ways to address them, when will the mental health (amendment) Bill be introduced?

Investment of the National Pensions Reserve Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2009: Second Stage (Resumed) (4 Mar 2009)

Seymour Crawford: I thank my colleague for sharing time and welcome the opportunity to speak on this important Bill. There is an urgent need to bring some stability to the main banks and it is clear that can only be done through recapitalisation. The Minister, Deputy Brian Lenihan, stated in his contribution this will ensure that the Bank of Ireland and AIB will be in a position to provide necessary...

Order of Business (26 Feb 2009)

Seymour Crawford: In light of the difficulties of many industries at present and the need for the simplification of the rules and regulations, when will the company law consolidation and reform Bill be introduced? In light of the fact that a group of young people were drinking all night in a park outside Monaghan last week, and one of the company, unfortunately, lost his life, when will the sale of alcohol...

Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Bill 2009: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages (25 Feb 2009)

Seymour Crawford: I support the efforts of my colleagues to try to get justice for farmers who are affected by this totally unfair and unjust system. I refer to farmers who conducted certain works before 31 December last, in line with a Government commitment and under an agreed contract. They now find that the payments they are owed will be delayed. I do not think any sector of the public agrees with this...

Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Bill 2009: Second Stage (Resumed) (24 Feb 2009)

Seymour Crawford: I have already spoken at length on the delays in the farming grant. The Minister's and Government's decision in that respect is completely unjust and unfair. When the Minister for Finance spoke on this Bill he gave only two lines in a 12-page speech to the issue of farming which gives some idea of his thinking regarding the serious farming crisis. I will leave further comment on that issue...
