- Topical Issue Debate: Rare Diseases Strategy Implementation (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: Is the Minister of State saying that a dedicated clinician will be appointed in Dublin or Cork or, in both cities, to treat sufferers of EDS, which is the nub of the problem for sufferers? I would like to quote from a letter which I received from a wonderful young constituent who is due to sit the leaving certificate examination next year. She says:I need your help. I am living with...
- Topical Issue Debate: Rare Diseases Strategy Implementation (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or EDS is classified in European Union terms as a rare disease because it affects less than one in every 5,000 of the population. EDS is mainly thought if as being a genetic disorder but some literature suggests that it can occur spontaneously. It has been termed as the "invisible illness" because while there are no visible symptoms, sufferers may be in great pain and...
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: A Cheann Chomhairle, my first question is to you as well as to the Tánaiste. Why did the group known as "Others" not get an opportunity to speak following the recent announcement about the troika? We have questions to ask about the German bank, KfW, and the role it will play in our country. I noticed Deputy Dowds, my friend and colleague from Clondalkin, rightly getting upset with...
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)

It is very important to put that on the record when the Taoiseach comes in here. The Minister for Finance knew the reality, just like I did and just like Deputy Rabbitte did.

Tommy Broughan: Why did the social democratic Members not get a chance to speak on this? When will we have a proper debate about the terms of this bailout exit?
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: He is a lot more social democratic than Deputy Kehoe. I would also like to ask the Tánaiste about the Health (Amendment) Bill 2013, following a letter I received this morning from Dr. Mel McEvoy in Donneycarney. His letter asked me why a 84 year old is losing her medical card and why she is living in terror because she has a son with a disability who needs care.
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: She feels that she has so many additional costs. Why is the Tánaiste standing over these savage cutbacks in health? Why is it necessary for Dr. McEvoy to write to me, Deputy Ó Ríordáin, Deputy Kenny, Deputy Flanagan, and Deputy Finian McGrath, as he will confirm?
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: We did not get a chance to raise this earlier. Deputy Mathews wanted to speak. I wanted to speak. We were effectively gagged.
- Order of Business (14 Nov 2013)
Tommy Broughan: The Tánaiste knows about it now.
