Social Welfare Benefits. (1 Mar 2007)

Seán Crowe: Does the Minister accept that child benefit is a key mechanism for ending child poverty? Would he also accept that children who are now prevented from receiving child benefit due to the habitual residence condition are most in need of it, given that their parents are not permitted to work while awaiting a decision on their residency application? Social Welfare Code. (1 Mar 2007)

Seán Crowe: Will the Minister accept that low-paid jobs are not necessarily a good way for lone parents to take their families out of poverty? Part of the problem is down to the quality of jobs they are offered. I have been informed that lone parents under this scheme would be given priority access to county child care committees. However, there is no system in place in prioritising these committees....

Domestic Violence: Motion (Resumed). (28 Feb 2007)

The victims often say they feel trapped, helpless, ignored, abandoned or at a loss. They feel they have nowhere to go and are ashamed. They say, "He does not mean it, he really loves me and the kids. I probably provoke him". There are others who say nothing while the abuse continues....

Irish Language. (28 Feb 2007)

Seán Crowe: Does the Minister not accept that our concerns arise from this delay in progressing the project? Talk of more consultation and consideration sends out the wrong signals about the project. For example, does he expect criticism of public service pay and conditions, or will the...

Ceisteanna — Questions (Resumed) (28 Feb 2007)

Seán Crowe: Will this review of the OECD report bring about cost-cutting measures or will it examine the real value and benefit of the public service in providing vital public services? The Taoiseach referred to joined-up thinking on the public service, but will this review cover joined-up Government? We regularly criticise the education and health sectors where one section clearly does not seem to...
