Seanad: Personal Insolvency Bill 2012: Committee Stage (29 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I support amendment No. 134 tabled by Senators Crown and Barrett. Employees of multinationals would be at a disadvantage relative to others. This also applies to members of the legal profession. The Minister should look after all employees. As my colleague, Senator Cullinane, states, we are trying to destigmatise the position of those who have entered into arrangements to deal with their...

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (29 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I agree with the leader of the Fianna Fáil group on the mortgage issue. People should only pay what they can afford after they have paid for fuel, food and the care of their families. This Government and previous governments have failed to help the increasing number of people in mortgage difficulty. I join Senator Paul Coghlan in welcoming the announcement on the Malin and Valentia Coast...

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (29 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I seek a debate on the Irish Coast Guard service and how it happened that a Minister saw a final report when all the criticism of senior management that was in the draft report was removed. The final report sent to the Minister was entirely different from the draft.

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (29 Nov 2012)

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (29 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: He was not fit for his job. I state that again.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I also ask the Leader to investigate why this report was leaked. Obviously it came from members of Cabinet or from the Minister for Health's own Department. He has many grounds on which he could resign - now he just has to pick one from the list.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: Given that the Minister for Health has said that he would stand over a decision-----

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I would say that you will find out this is not a point of order, a Chathaoirligh.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: Was I right, a Chathaoirligh?

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I ask the Leader to inquire as to why this report was leaked. Who leaked the report? Perhaps he might come back to the House tomorrow and inform us whether the Government will make any attempt to find out how this report ended up in the media. As Senator MacSharry has pointed out, members of the media appeared on national television saying that they had been briefed on the report before...

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: They seem to be more concerned with defending the Minister and defending the fact that this was leaked than bothering to call for-----

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: ----- an inquiry to find the source of the leak.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: With all due respect to the Senator opposite, who suggested it is without foundation, it is in the public arena because it was leaked, as he is well aware.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: Regarding the deal Greece secured, I ask the Leader to organise a debate on why Ireland is not seeking such a deal. The Minister of State with responsibility for European affairs came to this House and said Ireland has no position when it comes to seeking a deal.

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: With due respect to the Members opposite, if I had not been interrupted-----

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I ask the Leader to organise a debate on Ireland seeking a deal on the debt write down because the Government seems to have no position on it.

Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: I watched the programme last night and saw the dignity of a man who had lost the woman he loved. This country needs leadership on this issue which is sadly lacking from the Government at this time. The President's comments yesterday of what needs to happen is showing the leadership the country requires when one considers the omnishambles of the Government's handling of the Galway case....

Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: It is not mine. Will we have a debate on this issue? The programme for Government promised to clean up State boards and all previous appointees would be asked to resign in six months. After the Global Irish Economic Forum, we had these offers to serve for free when other countries would have paid hundreds of thousands of euro to have them. However, none of them has been asked to serve....

Seanad: Employment Equality (Amendment)(No. 2) Bill 2012: Second Stage (21 Nov 2012)

Mark Daly: Very good election gimmicks are in short supply. We will not discuss the five-point plan in that regard, the implementation of which we are still awaiting.
