Crime Levels (20 Jun 2012)

Jonathan O'Brien: I merely wish to clarify a matter. I do not suggest shops knowingly engage in criminal activity, but it is important to have regulation to protect, not only victims of burglaries but also the proprietors of the shops themselves. We do not want shops to be used unknowingly to sell stolen goods. Regulation is equally important for the owners of shops who want to carry out legitimate trade.

Garda Investigations (20 Jun 2012)

Jonathan O'Brien: I do not want to repeat this, but it would be useful if we could get the written answers. Garda Investigations (20 Jun 2012)

Jonathan O'Brien: It is important that people know the investigation is, in the Minister's words, substantially complete, the files are with the DPP and it is a matter for her. We look forward to the outcome of her deliberations on it. Perhaps the Minister could comment on the fact there was only one forensic accountant attached to the Garda investigation. In the Minister's opinion, was this appropriate?...

Criminal Justice (Amendment) Act 2009: Motion (13 Jun 2012)

Jonathan O'Brien: Before I comment on the motion, I refer to the Minister's closing remarks on the previous motion which show a complete lack of understanding and ignorance of the situation that prevailed in the North during the past 30 years. Some of the Minister's comments in regard to "slow learners" and people only embracing the peace process because they were tired of violence are way off the mark. He...
