Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Urban Area Speed Limits and Road Safety Strategy: Discussion (1 Mar 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: This is Love 30's area. Has it looked at that? Individual local authorities are doing 30 km/h zones but could they decide to make all urban and built-up areas 30 km/h zones by default and put that to the councillors as a reserved decision? Can that be done? Has Love 30 looked at that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Urban Area Speed Limits and Road Safety Strategy: Discussion (1 Mar 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: We might follow up on that with the Department and maybe the organisations before us. It is a good question. You do not necessarily always have to build a new plan if the old one can basically be remodelled.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Urban Area Speed Limits and Road Safety Strategy: Discussion (1 Mar 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Dr. D'Arcy had not concluded her response, but in one sense pedestrian crossings had the impact of reducing the number of cars on the road. By definition, once there were fewer cars, they were getting through more easily. There was a disincentive to travel by car because drivers were hitting lights all the time. That might be a layman's view, but was that one feature of it?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Sports Funding (24 Feb 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: It is good to hear that the appeals process is getting under way in March. It will be welcomed. I have a few quick follow-on questions regarding that process. There has been inflation in the cost of materials. Following on from Deputy Stanton's point, will the Minister of State allow clubs to appeal to get an increase in the amount they have been allocated? Following on from that, the...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Sports Funding (24 Feb 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: In Limerick and north County Tipperary, more than 100 clubs and organisations got sports capital funding. It is a very good measure and there has been a significant increase on previous years. In the appeals process, there will be some clubs and sporting organisations that are deemed invalid because the type of application they put forward is not covered under the scheme, and there will be...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (23 Feb 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: One of the actions under Housing for All involves reviewing the income eligibility for social housing. When will that be brought forward? I put a proposal to the Government and to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage on the basis that we have seen no increase in the income limits for nearly 11 years now. At the time, in April 2011, there was an increase of €5,000,...
