Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Beef Data Genomics Programme: Discussion (22 May 2018)

Jackie Cahill: I object to that statement now, Chairman. There is no proof to show that there is a link between Crohn’s disease and Johne’s disease. There is no proof for that and that statement is out of order.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Beef Data Genomics Programme: Discussion (22 May 2018)

Jackie Cahill: I welcome the delegation from the Irish Charolais Cattle Society here today. I thank Mr. McKiernan for his comprehensive statement, which contained a serious amount of questions. At present, cows in the dairy herd make €3.75 a kilo,...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Beef Data Genomics Programme: Discussion (22 May 2018)

Jackie Cahill: The witnesses came in here to make their points about the system that is in operation regarding how animals are classified. The pilot scheme for Johne's disease has very little to do with the points they need to make about the Charolais breed and the way the system is operating. That is my view. There is no substantiation for what Mr. Comerford is saying. I am a dairy and beef farmer....
