Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Social Dimension of Economic and Monetary Union: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the three speakers and I thank them for their presentation. There is much in them with which many of us would agree. With all the talk about different political ideologies, I have yet to meet any politician who likes high unemployment or who wants to see emigration or youth unemployment. The question is how to find a solution across the differences of opinion among the political...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Not-for-Profit Sector: Discussion (19 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the witnesses. It is a very interesting discussion and I am particularly interested in the last comments regarding the community interest companies and the B Corps. In some way, every company is worth its salt or is reinvesting to some degree, whether it be a local supermarket employing local people and sponsoring the local football team and so on. Most companies are putting...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: EU General Affairs and External Relations Council: Discussion with Minister of State (14 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the Minister of State and his officials to the meeting. He mentioned that he met with the Minister of State, Mr. Lidington, MP, in London and Edinburgh last week. Were there informal discussions on the referendum in the United Kingdom on EU membership? In terms of the work programme, the financial transaction tax was mentioned. I ask for an update on where we are going on that,...

Other Questions: Commonage Division (14 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: 9. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number and name, in tabular form, of each commonage inspected in County Galway in 2013; the pre-inspection digitised area of each and the pre- and post-inspection reference area, that is, forage area, of each. [48145/13]

Other Questions: Commonage Division (14 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I asked that the Minister would provide in tabular form the names and townlands of each commonage inspected in County Galway in 2013; the pre-inspection digitised area of each and the pre- and post-inspection reference area, that is, the forage area. I am concerned about inconsistencies in forage values of commonage throughout the county and perhaps the country and I await the figures.

Other Questions: Commonage Division (14 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I thank the Minister of State for the reply. I am not blaming him because he has simply been given the information, but where is the tabular form with the commonages? Has it been provided? My direct question was to ask the Minister to provide in tabular form each commonage and the pre- and post-inspection details. I have spoken to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Deputy...

Other Questions: Health Services Provision (13 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: 9. To ask the Minister for Health the position regarding the urgent upgrade of the health centre on Inishbofin for which planning permission has been obtained but expires next month; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44246/13]

Other Questions: Health Services Provision (13 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I am seeking information on the provision of a new health facility for the island of Inishbofin. As the Minister of State is aware, island communities face unique challenges. When I visited the island recently, the building was in a poor state. I spoke with a retired public health nurse who stated that the facility, to use her words, was awful, cold and unsuitable for serving the public.

Other Questions: Health Services Provision (13 Nov 2013)

Seán Kyne: I thank the Minister of State for his response. I am pleased that an extension to the planning permission has been sought. According to the Minister of State, this centre was identified as a priority in 2003. There has been a major delay. It is difficult to believe that the upgrade so badly needed by the island community would be delayed by ten years. The centre is in a poor state. I am...
