Jim O'Callaghan: I believe we all agree that academic freedom is of the utmost importance. It is expressly stated to be one of the objectives of An tÚdarás. Looking at the functions of An tÚdarás, the first function of it is to promote the objects. Academic freedom is an object and a function. It is implicitly stated within section 9(1)(a). I believe that constitutes protection.
