- Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: An tÉileamh don Ghaeloideachas: an Roinn Oideachais (14 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: Ach beidh polasaí cuimsitheach ar an talamh ag an bpointe sin. An é sin do na scoileanna? An gclúdaíonn sé sin réamhscolaíocht, suas go dtí na hollscoileanna?

- Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: An tÉileamh don Ghaeloideachas: an Roinn Oideachais (14 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: Mar is eol do na finnéithe, d’fhreastail muid go léir ar agóidí taobh amuigh den Dáil de bharr nach bhfuil an Rialtas in ann freastal ar an éileamh atá ann ó thaobh Gaelcholáistí, go háirithe i mBaile Átha Cliath. D’fhreastail mé féin ar dhá ócáid taobh amuigh den Dáil. De réir mar a...

- Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: An tÉileamh don Ghaeloideachas: an Roinn Oideachais (14 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: Is maith an rud é sin go bhfuil sé clúdaithe faoin bpróiseas atá ar siúl faoi láthair ach is féidir an frustrachas agus an fhearg a mhothú ó na tuismitheoirí agus na daltaí atá gan seirbhís. Creidim nach bhfeileann an córas atá ann don éileamh atá ar an talamh ar fud na tíre de réir na...
- Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: An tÉileamh don Ghaeloideachas: an Roinn Oideachais (14 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: Maidir leis an méid sin, ní féidir gan a lua an rud atá ráite go minic agus go poiblí ag an Ollamh Ó Duibhir, atá ina stiúrthóir ar SEALBHÚ. Tá creimeadh ag tarlú an t-am ar fad ó thaobh na n-uaireanta maidir le teagasc na Gaeilge. Tá creimeadh ag tarlú an t-am ar fad. Ní dóigh liom go dtuigeann an...

Catherine Connolly: 66. To ask the Minister for Rural and Community Development further to Parliamentary Question No. 106 of 25 April 2023, the timeline for the publication of the new policy for the islands; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27833/23]
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Departmental Policies (13 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: Events have overtaken us. My question relates to the publication of the policy document for the islands. Well done and congratulations to the Minister because that document has finally been published. However, it was not initially available in Irish, although it is at this stage. For some 64% of the population of the islands, Irish is their first language but the document was not...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Departmental Policies (13 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: The action plan was in Irish but the policy document was not in Irish on the day of the launch. The Irish version came much later. We got access to the action plan on the day. In respect of implementation, will the Minister confirm when the monitoring body will be set up? She has confirmed there will be island representatives on that body. I have already said, "Well done". The...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Departmental Policies (13 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: I thank the Minister. It is difficult to reply to questions within one minute. I will ask again about the monitoring committee. When will it be set up? Who will be on it? I also ask about the Irish language. There is only one page on the Irish language in an 80-page document and that page refers to implementing the Official Languages Act. There is nothing else about the Irish language....
- Retained Fire Services: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (13 Jun 2023)
Catherine Connolly: I thank Sinn Féin for the motion, which I support. Perhaps the inconsistency in the Minister’s speech and in his countermotion might capture why we have a problem here because he describes the retained firefighters as “an elite front-line service staffed by [very] dedicated, selfless people serving their communities around the clock”. That is lovely and I agree...
