Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Italian Presidency of Council of European Union: Italian Ambassador (8 Jul 2014)

Dara Murphy: I am not sure the ambassador is in a position to answer the Deputy's final question, which may be a matter for France. I welcome a number of members of the diplomatic corps, specifically the ambassadors of Cyprus, Spain and Argentina, all of whom are very interested in Italy's plans for its Presidency.

I welcome His Excellency the ambassador of Italy...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals (3 Jul 2014)

Dara Murphy: My question is similar to those put by Deputy Durkan and Deputy Crowe. We talk about xenophobia and racism, and it is easy to see from the polls where the rule of law is breaking down, on which everybody would agree, but we all have different laws. Is this process simply about ensuring that countries uphold their own laws rather than interfering with those laws? As Deputy Durkan said, we...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals (3 Jul 2014)

Is the new framework that was announced in March agreed and operational now, or will other proposals and changes be made? In other words, is Mr. Crabit here to inform us about a process which exists and which governments are putting in place or will further changes be necessary?

State Airports (Shannon Group) Bill 2014 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (25 Jun 2014)

Dara Murphy: I, too, welcome the Bill. While it is predominantly about the independence of Shannon Airport I know having heard the Minister's contribution earlier and having read it that it makes reference to Cork Airport and moves towards its independence. Many of the points made by Deputy Patrick O'Donovan also apply to Cork. Of significant importance has been the focus of the Government on regional...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Outcome of the European Elections: Discussion (24 Jun 2014)

Dara Murphy: I welcome both witnesses. To contradict what the previous speaker said, people are not disengaging more. We had a higher turnout in the elections. It was marginal and still low but it is inaccurate to say there is greater disengagement. It is probably more accurate to say engagement could be greater. While there has been a strengthening of some of the eurosceptic and far-right groups...
