Written Answers — Department of Health: Covid-19 Pandemic (22 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: 616. To ask the Minister for Health the position on the use of antigen tests; his views on comments made by some members of NPHET in relation to the sale and use of same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25858/21]

Impact of Covid-19 on People with Disabilities within the Education and Health Sectors: Statements (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: Gabhaim buíochas leis an gCathaoirleach Gníomhach. The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly disrupted everyone’s lives. Its effects vary considerably for people of different race, ethnicities and income levels. What has been the impact on people with disabilities? Children and teenagers, for example, with a wide range of developmental, physical and behavioural needs have been...

Regional Airports and Aviation: Statements (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: It is nothing short of a disgrace.

Regional Airports and Aviation: Statements (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I am disappointed that the Minister, Deputy Eamon Ryan, is not here. I listened to the debate on “Saturday with Katie Hannon” last Saturday. I heard the Minister of State, Deputy Fleming, whom I greatly respect, speak on behalf of the Government and there were also people from the aviation industry. I heard Michael O'Leary in a phone call to the programme. Like him or lump...

Fisheries and Coastal Communities: Statements (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I support the fishermen of our coastal counties. I am from an inland county, Tipperary, which is a proud county. I acknowledge the work that Deputy Michael Collins has done and corroborate his statement that his demand that the Taoiseach appoint a full Minister for fishing was not delivered on. That is all he ever asked for. Irish fishermen understandably resent the EU requirement,...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I want the Government to bring Mr. Paul Reid before it to get clarification on hospital visits and especially the accompaniment of partners for childbirth, labour or scans, which is not allowed in various hospitals. The hospitals are operating like independent republics. Following the cyberattack, they will not even respond to letters. It is utterly ridiculous that partners are not allowed...

Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Network (17 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: 229. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if the level of funding awarded to Tipperary County Council will be increased ahead of the next three year roadworks programme in order to assist the Council’s roads development to promptly improve the road network which has been ranked as 29th out of 31 local authorities by the National Oversight and Audit Commission for road...

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I move amendment No. 2: In page 5, line 10, after "promote" to insert "social, economic and". I want to say how disappointed we are, as I said earlier, that we did not get proper time to debate this Bill fully, or any of our amendments or others. We have more than 90 amendments and there are more than 220 altogether. Is mór an trua é sin. As I say, we want to bring the people...

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: You can.

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I am not going to speak because many Members want to speak and we are running out of time for all the amendments that are there. I have moved the amendment and I am merely saying it is disappointing that the Minister is steadfast. The Minister remains resolute that he will not accept any amendment - no matter what it is - except ones he himself brought forward to committee. That is a pity....

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: Go raibh maith agat, a Cheann Comhairle.

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: I thank the Ceann Comhairle. I appreciate his judgment and I value it. The Minister sounded very conciliatory. I said at the very start that I did not want anything to be personal, but he seems to be missing the point we are trying to represent that there are so many people he is not bringing with him. Ní neart go cur le chéile. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí. We want...

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: Three of our Deputies attended when we found out through a journalist that the meeting was taking place. We were not even told it was on. I know where the blame lies there. The clerk to the committee was very nice to us about it but it happened. I am asking Deputy Bruton to please correct the record in what he is saying. Three of our Deputies attended and dealt with all of our amendments.

Mattie McGrath: He has to withdraw what he said.

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (16 Jun 2021)

Mattie McGrath: As leader of the group, I ask Deputy Bruton to withdraw his allegation. In actual fact, as I said earlier, we were not even notified of the committee meeting even though we had tabled 90 amendments. A journalist rang us but we were not notified.
