Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)

Seán Kyne: Mr. Flaherty mentioned the young mother who came straight from BreastCheck to the services. Is that initial contact the most important? How long does contact last? If somebody is going through chemotherapy or radiotherapy, is he or she less likely to be physically able to reach out? Is it after that person has finished treatment that he or she needs more supports? How would it-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Challenges Facing Community-based Cancer Support Services: Discussion (29 May 2024)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the witnesses here this morning. Obviously, they have a very important role in cancer support. It is something that will impact many of us in the future. Every family is likely to experience cancer at some stage. How do people hear about community cancer support centres? Does it come through referrals from hospitals? I presume the hospital would be the first point of contact.

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Road Projects (23 May 2024)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the fact a funding application has been made by Galway County Council. Unfortunately, we heard the same thing in 2008 and on numerous occasions since then. I am concerned this is another stalling position and after the series of elections will still have made no progress. The people of Claregalway need to know this will progress, go to TII and be funded. The concern is we hear...

Seán Kyne: Yes, perfect. I welcome the Minister of State. I thank the Labour Party for tabling this motion on the very important issue of waste collection, which has gone through a myriad of different regimes and changes over the years. Whether we have an ideal system or not I cannot say. I come from Galway and waste collection is not an issue that has exercised people for a number of years but the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Neurology and Neurorehabilitation Healthcare Strategies: Discussion (15 May 2024)

Seán Kyne: Neurology services in Mayo are effectively non-existent. Would it be a case that marginal cases, who maybe in a hospital with a full service would be referred and seen, are now just being left without even a referral because there is deemed to be no point because of the waiting lists elsewhere? I am talking in particular about the elderly who have neurological conditions. I assume that for...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Neurology and Neurorehabilitation Healthcare Strategies: Discussion (15 May 2024)
