Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: The Viability of and Opportunities for the Post Office Network: An Post (9 Jun 2021)

Jerry Buttimer: I thank Mr. McRedmond and Ms Byrne. I thank members of An Post, including the Irish Postmasters Union and staff, for the work they have done during the pandemic. Ms Byrne mentioned scale payments in her contribution. There is a significant concern that postmasters will lose income. She might explain to me how they will not lose income because I have been told that they could face a cut of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: The Viability of and Opportunities for the Post Office Network: An Post (9 Jun 2021)

Jerry Buttimer: I have two final questions in the context of the presentations. The post office cannot cross-sell lottery products as was mentioned. As regards An Post, consolidation means closure in many cases. From talking to postmasters at local level and An Post staff, many do not share Mr. McRedmond's optimism about the future. They are concerned about the change. I hope that his vision is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Jerry Buttimer: I thank Dr. Mina for being here and wish his mother a very happy birthday today. I will not delay the meeting. Dr. Mina has given a very impressive presentation, as have our other witnesses. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, has consistently warned of the drawbacks of antigen testing. He has referred to the test as being 50% accurate. Does Dr. Mina agree with that sentiment?

Jerry Buttimer: We have been discussing the European green certificate, antigen testing and returning to sporting events. Dr. Mina is based in the city of Boston. On 29 May the Governor of Massachusetts ended all restrictions and the Red Sox are back playing in Fenway Park. Would Dr. Mina be confident antigen testing can play a significant role in people attending sporting events?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Jerry Buttimer: We have reached the point in the committee where we seem to have a view around the need for antigen testing. I concur with everybody who has asked for the CMO and Dr. De Gascun to come in. It is imperative that we conclude with them in that. I support that proposition.

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Ambulance Service (31 May 2021)

In that time, it has been tasked close to 1,000 times by the National Ambulance Service. In 2020, it was tasked 490 times and so far in 2021, it has been tasked 225 times. This exemplifies the range of services the...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Ambulance Service (31 May 2021)

Jerry Buttimer: I thank the Minister of State for his reply. I am happy to work with him and colleagues from across the Houses, and especially with Deputies Creed and Moynihan, in respect of the Irish Community Air Ambulance organisation. The fundamental issue here is the €320,000 in VAT being paid by a charitable body to the State, when the organisation in question is tasked with being called out...
