- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Inflationary Costs in the Construction Industry: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: In the context of the two specific sites and the numbers I mentioned, there is very little in there for speculation or developer profit. I do not understand how that comment could relate to the two sites I referenced.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Inflationary Costs in the Construction Industry: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: I suppose they would be similar to any Housing for All sites where properties would be built under the affordable purchase scheme. That is where the land is owned by the State and the process would go to market to see how many units could be built and for what amount. If that comes in at €300,000, the maximum subsidy is €100,000, so the price per unit would be €200,000....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Inflationary Costs in the Construction Industry: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: In Dublin city, the majority of available land is public rather than private. I come back to the point about there being no plans for affordable purchase for people earning €36,000 and €80,000 in Dublin city. Those sites I mentioned, which are being developed by Dublin City Council, would deliver units at earnings of €51,000.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Inflationary Costs in the Construction Industry: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: There are other sites in construction as well. They are in Kildonan and many other sites planned by Dublin City Council that will form public housing on public land. They are all part of Housing for All. The worry is that inflation in construction costs will evaporate the affordability we have built in. I accept Ms Hegarty's point on the €100,000 subsidy and how sustainable it is....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Inflationary Costs in the Construction Industry: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: I am very familiar with the schemes at both O'Devaney Gardens and Oscar Traynor Road, and to be fair, they are from before Housing for All. They were developed by the previous Government and they did not have the €100,000 subsidy or the affordable purchase fund. The biggest problem at O'Devaney Gardens and the reason we could only deliver 80% public housing on the site was that the...

Paul McAuliffe: I appreciate the Minister of State, Deputy Butler, is here as a representative of Government and I would appreciate if she could bring back to the Minister for Transport something critical in Dublin city for two groups of people. They include those who seek a taxi, often at weekends late at night, many of them young people who have not had a chance to go out for the past few years and who...

- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Public Transport (21 Jun 2022)
Paul McAuliffe: I appreciate the Minister of State outlining some of the changes but my experience of representing many taxi drivers during the pandemic was that we treated them totally differently from other businesses. They had to use savings or their €350 pandemic unemployment payment, PUP, to cover business costs. In every other industry, with very generous and important supports such as wage...
