To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the reason the weekly number of forestry licences issuing remain so low; if there is an indication that 2024 will mirror the patterns observed in 2023; the reasons behind the continuing slow pace in licencing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Investment Funds Trading in the Residential Property Market: Motion [Private Members] (17 Jan 2024)
Verona Murphy: Would you allow me the liberty, a Cheann Comhairle, of making a point? I know the Minister of State was not here when I made my contribution but two officials were present. This is very important from the point of view of what we are discussing and housing development. I ask the Minister of State to ensure that the officials of the Department he represents would come back with a written...
- Investment Funds Trading in the Residential Property Market: Motion [Private Members] (17 Jan 2024)
Verona Murphy: In early December last year, RTÉ's "Prime Time Investigates" brought attention to the most heinous of crimes. Three building developers provided evidence of a criminal extortion racket. All credit is due to them and the reporter, Barry O'Kelly. The documentary featured covert recordings showing how these criminals, John and Micheál Callaghan, acted as representatives of a number...

- An Bille up an Daicheadú Leasú ar an mBunreacht (Cúram), 2023: An Dara Céim - Fortieth Amendment of the Constitution (Care) Bill 2023: Second Stage (14 Dec 2023)
Verona Murphy: I have seen in some quarters this referendum being referred to as a referendum on the woman's place in the home and the fact that having such a provision in the Constitution is a backward notion. Of course, that is not what the Constitution states. It states: In particular, the State recognises that by her life within the home, woman gives to the State a support without which the common...
- An Bille um an Naoú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (An Teaghlach), 2023: An Dara Céim - Thirty-ninth Amendment of the Constitution (The Family) Bill 2023: Second Stage (14 Dec 2023)
Verona Murphy: The Constitution currently recognises only the marital family as the family. This referendum is intended to recognise and give constitutional status and protection to families beyond the marital family, including cohabiting couples and one-parent families. The special and unique status of marriage in the Constitution will not be altered by this. In order to do this, the Government proposes...

Chapter 11 - Utilisation of the Land Aggregation Scheme Sites (14 Dec 2023) Verona Murphy: I welcome the witnesses back to the committee. I want to follow on from what Deputy Ó Cathasaigh asked Mr. Doyle. Mr. Doyle made a comment on the scale and breadth of his Department, of which housing is such a big part. Is he overwhelmed? Is the Department too big?

Chapter 11 - Utilisation of the Land Aggregation Scheme Sites (14 Dec 2023) Verona Murphy: Mr. Jordan stated, regarding the land aggregation, that some of the sites were not suitable and that the Housing Agency had offered them as Ukrainian accommodation sites. Is that correct? Why would the sites be suitable for accommodating Ukrainians if they were not suitable for accommodating Irish people?

Chapter 11 - Utilisation of the Land Aggregation Scheme Sites (14 Dec 2023) Verona Murphy: According to a report that came out yesterday, more than 100,000 Ukrainians have been taken in and 16,000 Ukrainians are in jobs. If it is not a place where an Irish person can live and avail of services, would it not be fair to say that it is an impediment to someone who comes here as refugee finding a job if the services are not available? We are not doing ourselves any favours.

Chapter 11 - Utilisation of the Land Aggregation Scheme Sites (14 Dec 2023) Verona Murphy: It was interesting that Mr. Jordan made the point. If it is the case that we will throw up a few modular homes on any bit of land that is available, I do not find that acceptable. I do not think anybody does. The lack of communication in our communities is giving rise to the far right being able to cause problems and riots. We are expected to integrate. That is what communities do but...
