Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Revised)
(20 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: In the absence of the statement being made, is there a risk that some applications to An Bord Pleanála will be assessed and allowed? There is a fear that there could potentially be an appeal to An Bord Pleanála on an installation. If that statement has not been formalised and signed off by the Government, An Bord Pleanála cannot take it into account in making its decision.

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Revised)
(20 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: The decision on co-housing has raised some alarm because An Bord Pleanála indicated there had been no statement on co-housing. People are concerned that a similar process could take place with co-housing. I urge the Minister to expedite the statement because it is critical that we get it in place.

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Revised)
(20 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: I note the budget for inland fisheries has been reduced, if only slightly. Considering the biodiversity crisis we are in, it is disconcerting that we are not putting much more money into and placing much greater emphasis on inland fisheries, which perform an incredibly important function. Our river systems are in dire straits. We only have 20 rivers that are in pristine condition, down...

Jennifer Whitmore: That would be great. I thank the Minister.

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Revised)
(20 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: On the climate action fund, a call for expressions of interest issued in January 2020 and the applications were due to be called late last year but that has not happened. As many as 190 applications have been submitted for the fund. When will the funding become available? Will the Minister make the fund available for smaller applications? The average cost of projects is currently...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the Chairman and the witnesses. I thank the Chairman for allowing me to sit in on this very important and interesting discussion. I have a number of questions, first, for Ms Drisdelle, and hopefully then I can then come back with a question for Mr. Collenette. We are hearing today of the benefits of the ICS. Last week we had experts in who said that they were very concerned...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: I thank Ms Drisdelle. I will ask a quick question of Mr. Collenette that is similar to what Senator Boylan asked. Is there a list of his organisation's membership on its website? I believe access can only be gained to a small number, so I would be interested in knowing which bodies are members and in which sectors they are.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: No, but Mr. Collenette is representing a significant number of bodies in this regard and it would be interesting to know which.

Jennifer Whitmore: Absolutely.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: If they are engaging with our Government through Mr. Collenette's organisation, that makes it important for us to have an understanding of who they are. The ICBA registered its lobbying efforts on the register, which is welcome.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: Absolutely. Mr. Collenette was clear on that. I am wondering whether any commitments were made during those meetings with Government officials or Ministers that were held late last year in the third and fourth quarters regarding CETA? I know his primary efforts were in respect of expediting the ratification of CETA. Was Mr. Collenette surprised at how quickly CETA came onto the Dáil...

Project Ireland 2040: Motion [Private Members] (1 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the Rural Independent Group for bringing this motion. As we discuss Project Ireland 2040, it is important that we have a clear vision of what Ireland will look like in 20 years time. As we are all aware, the time goes quickly and we will get there a lot quicker than we think. Come 2040, we will only have ten years left to transition to a net zero-carbon economy. There are still a...

Written Answers — Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment: Covid-19 Pandemic Supports (1 Apr 2021)

Jennifer Whitmore: 1. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason companies that do not have a business premise cannot access funding from the small business assistance scheme for COVID; the funding available to outdoor adventure and corporate events industry that has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
