Thomas Gould: Sinn Féin has been proposing this legislation since 2019. We welcome that the Government is finally moving on it. It is long past time for white-collar crime to be dealt with by the law and treated as what it is. It is not a victimless crime. Those who suffered during the financial crash will say that. I am still dealing with families who were affected by that financial crash....

- Domestic Electricity and Gas Disconnections: Motion [Private Members] (18 Oct 2022)
Thomas Gould: This is about choices; it is as simple as that. When this country hit a financial crisis, the Government parties bailed out the banks and did not give a damn about the cost. This winter, the Government could choose whether to bail out ordinary working families and pensioners - the people who are trying to get through the winter. The choice was with the Government, and it decided not to...
- National Tourism Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (18 Oct 2022)
Thomas Gould: It is good to see the increase in funding, and I welcome it. Post Covid in particular, we need to rebuild the tourism sector. I am sure many Deputies are aware of the torrential rain on Sunday night in Cork city and the flooding that affected areas such as Hollyhill, Blackpool, Ballyphehane, Glanmire and other areas across the city. - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Oct 2022)
Thomas Gould: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. Cork City Council is seen by the Minister as one of the best local authorities for delivering affordable or social housing. He said it and I have seen great work being done. My issue is that the Government's housing targets are not ambitious enough. I was a councillor for 11 years. As far as I am aware, Cork City Council has hit...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Oct 2022)
Thomas Gould: I acknowledge that. The figures show this. My issue is that I think Cork City Council should be given more money, resources and staff. If the council can hit every target, then why not double them? These figures show that the housing crisis is getting worse in Cork. This is what they show. The Minister needs to back Cork City Council more. We saw extreme weather conditions at the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Oct 2022)
Thomas Gould: Is this a situation where what happens policy-wise, or what is stated, is not what happens on the ground?
