Catherine Connolly: I was asking about private patients and the failure to collect the insurance, and the seriousness of that concept of having children as private patients. How many patients would be seen as private patients with an income coming in? It is relatively small, I think, because the figure is €14 million or something.

Catherine Connolly: I do not agree. A public hospital should be public. However, I am not here to express my views. I am just trying to clarify. The family have insurance and they are seen. The advantage to the hospital is that it is earning money and that is income, however small relative to its overall budget. What is the advantage for the child? Surely all children are treated the same.

Catherine Connolly: That says a lot. It is very good. Yet, we have an insurance system at the same time and they are being asked if they want to use it, even though there are no consequences and no benefits.
