Vote 24 – Justice (25 May 2023) Colm Burke: On the Prison Service, some prisons provide a hepatitis C treatment programme over a period of eight or 12 weeks. In some cases people would be taken to a hospital setting to attend an outpatient clinic and, therefore, there is a huge cost issue because prison office staff must accompany prisoners, etc. I understand there was programme to roll out the treatment within prisons. Is the...

Vote 24 – Justice (25 May 2023) Colm Burke: I hope the Secretary General understands that I am concerned about the cost factor involved as three or four prison officers must accompany each prisoner to a hospital setting for treatment.

Vote 24 – Justice (25 May 2023) Colm Burke: Where are we with that issue? Has the matter been resolved? Can the treatment programme be rolled out in each prison?
- Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2021
Vote 24 – Justice (25 May 2023) Colm Burke: The treatment programme is ideal. I think a person receiving treatment would have to attend a hepatitis C clinic once a week for a period of either eight or 12 weeks. The advantage of administering treatment in a prison setting is that the person can receive treatment they require there.

Colm Burke: The issue regarding the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board is not a small one but it is very focused whereas Enterprise Ireland and what Deputy Dillon raised about IDA Ireland might be worth addressing at this stage. We could see if we can put the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board in with something else later on. Alternatively, we could put in two items at the same time. I do not know...

Colm Burke: The one thing that stands out with regard to both, if you look at the Olympic issue and the issue regarding the FAI, although it involves personalities, is that little kingdoms were built. - Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (25 May 2023)
Colm Burke: One of the problems we have had with a whole lot of services, no matter what they are, is the demand for staff and the availability of staff. The person is on a waiting list to be assessed but the question is at what stage do we decide the waiting time is too long and we therefore need to get an independent agency to do the assessment. Reference was made to the nursing homes. The issue...

Colm Burke: The same issue arose with the Central Bank with regard to Quinn Insurance. We had one meeting where we could not get information. While I am not saying there was anyone involved, that information got out to the media the day before the Central Bank came in for a second meeting. That is also totally unacceptable. To go back to the issue of the University of Limerick, I am not defending...
