- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Policies (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: We have had many exchanges in the Chamber on the need for free public transport. People Before Profit are very clear we consider this to be a key environmental and cost-of-living measure. I want to focus on the question of making public transport free for under-18s and students because not only is it a very good idea, but it is also Green Party policy. Are we going to see it happen?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Policies (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: I thank the Minister. The Green Party transport policy from April 2021 refers to short-term actions to be done within 12 months. One is to "Make public transport free for all students (up to and including 3rd level) ...". It is now 34 months later and students are still paying for public transport. What I took from the Minister's answer, as well as recent reporting in the Irish Examineris...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Policies (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: The fare reduction is welcome; there is no question about that. It has made a difference, so imagine what a difference it could make if the Minister's party's policy were implemented and we reduced the fares so far that they no longer existed. Imagine what that would mean for people in terms of the money in their pocket and the ease of just knowing they can jump on a bus, train or whatever...

- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Dublin Airport Authority (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: It was revealed last weekend in The Irish Timesthat the Dublin Airport Authority, DAA, is cooking the books in terms of the numbers of passengers going through the airport and, in reality, is breaching the passenger cap. If all passengers going through the airport were properly counted, the airport would have breached the 32 million passengers per annum cap by more than 1 million. What...
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Dublin Airport Authority (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: I raised this with the Minister, and I had the Minister of State, Deputy Chambers answer me, on 30 November. The Minister of State assured me then that "the CEO of the DAA has confirmed that, until planning permission ... is granted, it will continue to manage passenger capacity ... to ensure this planning condition [of 32 million] is not breached." DAA is breaching it. It is in the...
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Dublin Airport Authority (1 Feb 2024)
Paul Murphy: The DAA has provided the methodology all right and the methodology says we are cooking the books. The Minister of State is telling me that the Government and a Department led by a Green Minister does not mind and says that it is nothing to do with them. Are private jet customers included? Are they included in the figure that keeps under 32 million cap the 31.9 million figure which DAA...
