- Emergency Action on Housing and Homelessness: Motion [Private Members] (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: I want to encourage everyone from Munster and nationally to come to the National Monument on Grand Parade in Cork this Saturday at 2 p.m. for Raise the Roof for Munster and raise the roof for people who are crying out for housing. I will provide the Minister with an example of what he has done. I am not being personal, but the Minister needs to understand the consequences of his actions as...
- Finance (Local Property Tax and Other Provisions) (Amendment) Bill 2025: Second Stage (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: For the people of my constituency of Cork North-Central, another property tax hike just represents an increased bill they have to pay in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. In County Cork, according to a daft.ie report, house prices have increased by more than €75,000. That is not the fault of Cork City Council, Cork County Council, the people buying those houses or the tenants...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: I thank the witnesses for being here. I will start with the LDA. In 2021, I was told by the LDA that rents on the St. Kevin's site in Cork were expected to be in the region of €900 and €1,100. Is that still the expected cost of those rental properties?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: The only problem is the Minister for justice and Taoiseach last week greenlighted the building of a new prison on the site. It is a bit confusing. At one stage, it was being looked at for housing for the community and now the Minister has made this announcement. Did the LDA get notification of the changes?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: But the LDA has not been notified of the changes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: Is it not strange that the Minister makes an announcement but does not inform the LDA and it is still being considered for housing? I will move on from that. I apologise but there are time constraints. It is not the LDA's issue and I respect that. It is doing its best. On apartments in the Cork docklands, the LDA is working with Glenveagh and the average cost is coming in at...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: Is the LDA looking at another site down there for regeneration? If this is the price set by the first deal it has done, it is setting a standard for what apartments are worth. We also know that the private sector is going to be building apartments there. With the LDA paying €445,000 to Glenveagh, is that not the standard now? The price is going to go one way - up - so we are looking...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: The benchmark now is €445,000 for the Cork docklands. Would it be fair to say that?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: I thank Mr. Coleman. I have a question for the Housing Agency. How many cost-rental tenant in situ homes have been purchased and how many have been transferred to AHBs? How many applications for cost-rental tenant in situ have been received and where is the blockage in delivering this scheme?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: My time is up. On the blockages-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Challenges Relating to the Delivery of Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jun 2025)
Thomas Gould: It was on the blockages. The witnesses might come back to that in a minute.
