- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Oct 2019)
Eamon Scanlon: Yesterday, Deputy Micheál Martin raised the issue of cutbacks in disability payments. The Taoiseach denied it, but I do not know how he could do so when the rehabilitative training allowance of €31.80 for people with disabilities was wiped out. To add insult to injury, participants are now being asked to pay €20 per week. In my book, that is a €2,500 cut for the...
- Social Welfare Bill 2019 [Seanad]: Second Stage (16 Oct 2019)
Eamon Scanlon: I am delighted to speak on the Bill. I should declare that I was self-employed from 6 September 1974, 41 years ago, until the point at which I was fortunate enough that the people of Sligo-Leitrim elected me to this House. We do not really appreciate the amount of employment created by self-employed people or the amount of work they do. According to the CSO, there are more than 250,000...
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (15 Oct 2019)
Eamon Scanlon: A similar situation to that described by the Deputies pertains in the north west, including in Sligo, Leitrim, north Roscommon and south Donegal. Farmers cannot even walk on the land due to the amount of rain over the past two months in particular. There will be an animal welfare issue if the Minister does not extend the date and give farmers an opportunity to get slurry out of sheds.

- Financial Resolution No. 3: Stamp Duties - Section 126AA Bank Levy (8 Oct 2019)
Eamon Scanlon: I wish to make a few points on the stamp duty change. As has been said, it will take money from small farmers who decide to sell their land and retire. When one considers that 18 months ago the stamp duty on commercial property was 2% and today it is 7.5%, I honestly think it is a penal tax. It is very unfair and it will affect people with a small business who want to sell it and retire....
