Ceisteanna - Questions (resumed) - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Science Foundation Ireland (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I very much welcome the arrival here of the likes of Professor Hitzman. I wish him and iCRAG the very best of luck. It is important. However, I hoped for a breakdown of the figures. The Minister of State might provide one in a written response. The percentage of funding going to various categories suggests that the priorities in the State research sector is the two founding areas,...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: Will we have it in time for the next general election?

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I do not know if the Taoiseach's party or other parties have had a similar experience to my party in regard to online advertising for the European Parliament and local election campaigns. It has been chaotic. The authorisation, approval and oversight process is far from satisfactory. I looked atwww.facebook.com/ads/library,where one is supposed to be able to get a sense of how much...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: It is a security issue.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I apologise if I ask some questions that were asked earlier. I had to go to the Chamber for a priority question to the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation. If the Minister is unable to answer any specific questions, he can provide a written reply. As was suggested earlier, we will have to do further investigative work to make sure the public interest, as best we can discern it...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: The cabinet.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: May I ask two questions about that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: Is the Minister saying ComReg had no involvement in setting the price and is it index linked?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I wish to ask one last question that was not asked here. Is there provision in the contract to allow for up to 60,000 new homes to be built in the area?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I have been told that there is a higher band of up to 60,000 but I could be wrong.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: Are an additional 32,000 homes envisaged? That could go up to 60,000 homes within the contract.

Eamon Ryan: How does the figure marry with the national planing framework?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (14 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: On a point of clarification, the use of ESB poles is not regulated at the moment. The Government needs to do that.

Report of Joint Committee on Climate Action: Motion (9 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: It is unfortunate that some of the Members who tabled amendments are not present. This is an unfortunate way to agree the motion given that it has been amended without any of the amendment's proposers being present. I understand that the motion, as amended, has been agreed and that further debate on the other amendments is not required.

Report of Joint Committee on Climate Action: Motion (9 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: I would like to move the Green Party amendment.

Report of Joint Committee on Climate Action: Motion (9 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: There are other amendments and we would like to support their provisions. The idea of identifying a climate crisis is correct, but we should also recognise the biodiversity breakdown. The two are inextricably connected. We support the suggestion of using the Citizens' Assembly as a mechanism to address the biodiversity crisis. We look forward to discussing the amendments with parties in...

National Broadband Plan: Statements (9 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: That is the real difficulty here. We are faced with difficult choices. Everyone recognises the imperative of providing rural broadband. We need our young people to return to live in rural areas. They need to be able to work remotely. We need to create opportunity for new businesses. We need to make sure that all the benefits of this digital revolution are delivered everywhere in the...

Gnó na Dála - Business of Dáil (8 May 2019)

Eamon Ryan: We received a briefing in the Sycamore Room for an hour and a half or so from noon today. One of the key things we learned is that contracts for this will not be signed for months. That calls the timing into question. It is all last minute and election orientated. That is not appropriate in a Dáil which has seen cost overruns become a big issue. That type of process is not good enough.
