Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I do, yes. The single stage process is a bugbear of mine. There are different avenues of funding. I know there is an element of risk with a single stage process in the city. I ask Mr. Geaney to elaborate on what the issue is with that process within the local authority.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I promise this is my last question. When the Croí Cónaithe scheme was initially launched it was for towns and villages and within the curtilage of those towns and villages. The Minister has spoken about extending it into rural and urban areas. Where is the council at with that? Have the witnesses been given any clarification on it?

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (12 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I raised this issue last week with the Tánaiste but I believe it merits being raised here again. It relates to changes in benefit-in-kind in the new year. In January, the benefit-in-kind rate will increase from 6% to 9%, which means certain car owners will have to pay thousands of euro more to do their jobs. I am not just talking about private employers and employees here. I am...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Issues: Engagement with the Minister for Education (12 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I welcome the Minister. It will probably not surprise her that I am going to start with the Cork Life Centre. I raised it with her in a Topical Issue debate last week and, along with Deputy Colm Burke, I asked her an oral parliamentary question on it yesterday. I did not catch all of Deputy Ó Laoghaire's contribution. When I started off my teaching journey in 2013 and 2014, I was a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Issues: Engagement with the Minister for Education (12 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: It is encouraging that the Minister is looking at it at the very least but, as I said, that is one school, the first I rang today. There are seven schools in which I used to teach and I guarantee the picture would be very similar in each. There are 10% of teachers absent due to Covid in one particular school. There were also many other absences. When the answer is within the four walls of...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Home Schooling (11 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I did not expect that we would get down this far so that is great. I want to ask the Minister of State about sanctioning the post of home school community liaison officers to special schools and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Home Schooling (11 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: When I put down the question I knew that only DEIS schools were able to avail of home school community liaison officers. I am quite aware of that but I am asking that this would be looked at and reviewed over a period of time. I lifted the following information off the Tusla website earlier. The website states that part of the role of the home school community liaison officer is to enhance...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Home Schooling (11 Oct 2022)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: The simple truth is that there will never be enough resources for the kids in these special school settings with some of the needs I have described earlier. Let us be honest about that. Whether it is kids who need to be helped to feed; need PEG feeding, need help to go to the toilet, or whatever the case may be, the harsh reality is there will never be enough resources. The staff in those...
