Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Cycling Facilities (16 Oct 2025) See 5 other results from this debate

Barry Ward: In the Minister of State's response, he said the "Sutton to Sandycove cycleway, also commonly referred to as the east cost trail". It is not. They are different things. This is the frustrating thing I am dealing with in regard to management at local level, this notion that they are the same thing. They are not. The east coast trail, as the Minister of State has just described, comes...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Vaccination Programme (16 Oct 2025) See 4 other results from this debate

Colm Burke: I fully accept the answer the Minister of State has given in the sense that cost-effectiveness is also an important issue in relation to any new medicine that is made available under the drugs payment scheme. What I am saying, however, is that I understand that after the decision of July 2024, there were further negotiations but, again, no progress was made. While there was a considerable...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Social Welfare Code (16 Oct 2025) See 4 other results from this debate

Noel Grealish: I thank Deputy Moynihan again for raising this matter. The Government recognises the complexity of caring roles and the reality that many carers continue to provide full-time care while navigating other life events, including maternity leave. As I said in my opening remarks, this Government has committed to improving support for carers and those they care for. The significant changes to...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Employment Support Services (16 Oct 2025) See 4 other results from this debate

Noel Grealish: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta. I am responding on behalf of the Minister, Deputy Calleary, who cannot be here. The wage subsidy scheme is a key disability employment support. It aims to encourage employers to offer substantial and sustainable employment to disabled people through a subsidy. As of September 2025, there were 1,538 employers availing of the wage subsidy scheme and...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Bus Éireann (16 Oct 2025) See 4 other results from this debate

Noel Grealish: I am responding on behalf of the Minister of State, Deputy Michael Moynihan, who, unfortunately, cannot be present today. On the Minister of State’s behalf, I welcome the opportunity to respond to this matter and thank Deputy O’Donoghue for his question. The school transport scheme is a significant operation managed by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of...

Cathy Bennett: Home improvement grants are essential to facilitate disabled and older people to live at home with independence, dignity and safety, but a backlog exists to accessing this crucial support across the State, including in County Monaghan. The Minister for housing has said that this funding will be reviewed in future years as part of the annual budgetary process, but for those who need these...

Parental Bereavement Leave (Amendment) Bill 2021: Referral to Select Committee (16 Oct 2025)

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (16 Oct 2025) See 41 other results from this debate

Simon Harris: Like I said, these are debates worth having because the composition of families and households has changed significantly in our country in relatively recent times. Sometimes schemes and legislation can take time to catch up with that changing reality. These are always issues that we, as legislators and policymakers, should scrutinise. When that opt-out was ended quite a number of years...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Men's Sheds (16 Oct 2025) See 7 other results from this debate

Barry Ward: I acknowledge the work being done and the funding that has been made available. I agree with what the Minister said about the value of men's sheds and women's sheds. I do not really understand why we cannot put a multi-annual framework in place for funding for them. It would give them huge assistance in delivering and providing the services they do, which, we can all agree, are really...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Programmes (16 Oct 2025) See 6 other results from this debate

Dara Calleary: As the Deputy knows, the LEADER programme is a multi-annual funding programme. It is cofinanced by the European Commission under the Common Agricultural Policy, CAP. The current LEADER programme is operational across the country as we speak, with total funding of €180 million allocated across local action groups to cover the period 2023 to 2027. When considering LEADER...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (16 Oct 2025) See 8 other results from this debate

Micheál Carrigy: I have a question about the LIS. The Minister stated that some counties are not spending their allocation. I come from the county of Longford, where we have huge waiting lists. We spend our entire allocation. I ask that any moneys not spent by a local authority be ring-fenced and sent back to those local authorities that are spending what has been allocated and have long waiting lists.
