To ask the Minister how he expects an NQT to survive on the current salary scale, especially with the suspension of allowances. Most secondary school teachers do not obtain full time hours but are expected to be in school for the entire school day for 5 days per week. Therefore, these teachers can not take up a second job. If they are on an 11 hour per week contract their salary would be about 13,500e per year. How do you expect these teachers to live on this wage? Where is the justification that new teachers are taking so many hits when they will be doing the same work as those already in the system?
