Up until recently a new garage was not built for Dublin Bus in nearly 40 years. Consequently, the fleet could not be expanded to meet the public demand for transport that grew in the early 90`s. A solution was found by focusing public attention on the 2,760 taxis operating in Dublin and putting the whole responsibility of public transport firmly at their doorstep. We know what happened there, similar to the Financial Regulator`s lack of control on the banks lending, the Taxi Regulator issued licences with the same mindset the banks issued sub prime loans. We have no proper public transport infrastructure 10 years later and we are now told we have LESS buses to provide it!
Not to worry, Transport 21 will sort it all out in 2021.
