This is a problem all over the country not just in Dublin I live in Maynooth Co.Kildare where the biggest school building project in the history of the state was opened 2019 at a cost of 30 million euro ...Its on my doorstep and i cant get a place for my autistic son ..there is three autism classes on the campus but they are full...the classes are not like mainstream schools it does not take in pupils each year ,places only become available when someone who is in the class moves on..so if everyone that went in were 1st years and they stay for 6years until leaving cert then that class is full for the next 6 years that would equate to one child per year...This should be made public and stop filling parents heads with nonsence its an absolute disgrace how autistic children are treated in this country ,,,,everything has to be fought for stressing parents out Don't you think these people have enough to deal with on a daily basis. The education system for autistic children in this country IS NOT WORKING nobody is communicating the primary school should be contacting the seno and the secondary school as soon as the child goes into 6th class this gives a year to organise the transition,,The same with pre-school they should communicate with primary school..and it should be a case of just logging in to see what places are required ????????"the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members"shame on us...
