I see no reason why there shouldn't be both a Heavy Rail and a Metro link to the airport, a heavy rail link would connect the airport directly to the national rail network allowing direct trains from all over the country to Dublin Airport. Indeed a heavy rail link could be in place long before Metro North and at a fraction of the price.
