I would like to enquire why Minister Gormley left out Marine areas in his response to Enda Kenny about conservation areas etc recently. Our marine resources are of great concern to those living and working on the sea, and need protection also. Perhaps Minister Gormley was troubled by the separation of ministerial responsibility (environment vs marine). But if so, then I would like to refer him to the statement made on RTE's marine radio programme last night that stated that environmental/heritage issues on the sea such as Foreshore Licences are now the responsibility of his ministry, and not that of the Department of the Marine, which is now restricted to dealing with genuine marine matters.
Also, may I ask if Minister Gormley could issue a list of all the protected areas (SAC's, NHA's and SPA's) in Co Clare?
