For years the Special Criminal Court has been at the forefront of bringing to justice leading criminals within Ireland, and that includes names like John Gilligan, Slab Murphy, Lisa Smith and, of course, Jonathan Dowdall, to name just some. Despite the success of the Special Criminal Court in securing justice for victims of organised crime and terror in Ireland, it is rather shameful that the largest Opposition party in this State and in Dáil Éireann remains unwilling and unable to support the renewal of the Special Criminal Court. I have listened very carefully to what my colleagues opposite have said, not just here but also on radio and on television over the last week.
