I move amendment No. 22:

In page 6, to delete lines 19 to 22 and substitute the following:

“Summary proceedings: no time limit 7. Notwithstanding section 10(4) of the Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 1851, summary proceedings for an offence under this Act may be instituted at any time within two years from the date on which the person against whom the offence was committed became aware of or should reasonably have become aware of the offence.”.

I will press this amendment. I do not accept the Minister of State's explanation. It is our job to enforce the law and strengthen judges. The judge interprets the law but we create it. I do not accept the Minister of State's interpretation and I will press the amendment.
