I have listened to the contributions in the House. The genesis of this legislation was my Private Members’ Bill which I introduced in 2016. I am pleased it has come to this stage and will go to a referendum. I compliment the Minister, Deputy Flanagan, along with others on all the work they have done on this. This legislation will help thousands of couples who have suffered marital breakdown for whatever reason. In the 2016 census, 118,000 people declared themselves as separated. We need to treat them with humanity and compassion. I acknowledge Members’ contributions today.
