Last week the Taoiseach announced a review into the handling of critical emails which went astray in the Department of Justice and Equality and the Department's failure to comply with a disclosure order from the Charleton tribunal. The Taoiseach suggested that the review would be headed up by the Secretary to the Government. I, as did many others, made the point that this would not be acceptable as it is important that we would have public confidence in such a review. For that reason, it would need to be an independent review carried out by an independent person and not an internal Civil Service review.

Has he had time to reflect on that point? Is he now proposing that an independent person will head up that review?
