We have not proposed special economic status for the North because what we are proposing would not require it. Our proposition is that the trading relationship between the United Kingdom and Ireland should remain the same. I set out how this could be done in the speech I made in Belfast, first, in a long transition phase, second, through a customs union partnership which would still be a form of customs union between the United Kingdom and the European Union and also an EU-UK free trade area which would negate the need for a special zone.
