Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2016: Second Stage (Resumed)
9:50 pm
Margaret Murphy O'Mahony (Cork South West, Fianna Fail) | Oireachtas source
As I spoke at length on this Bill on 1 February last, I will share the remainder of my time with my colleagues, Deputies Eamon Scanlon and James Lawless.
To summarise the Fianna Fáil point of view, as I said previously I consider the Bill to be half baked. As I outlined the problems I had with it on the last occasion, I will not revisit them. However, in the interest of progressing ratification of the UN convention my party will support the Bill, although we will table many amendments. I will attend the meetings of the justice committee to ensure the amendments are passed. We are not happy with the Bill, but we do not wish to delay matters.
If I might digress for a moment, I am very disappointed with the latest news about the Repreeza drug. We discussed it at the meeting of the health committee today but I ask the Minister of State to use his influence to see if the decision can be revisited.
