Government Appeal of European Commission Decision on State Aid to Apple: Motion
8:45 pm
Michael Noonan (Limerick City, Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
There are three cases under appeal and another two of which I know that have been in the public domain. I have been told unofficially that there is another case pending which will be announced shortly. I do not, however, have the details of that. The Commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, advises that there is no Irish case pending. All the time I am talking about tax practices which were regarded as state aid. There may be other state aid cases for different reasons. In case my memory is inaccurate, I will ask my officials to give Deputy Ó Caoláin a briefing note on the number of cases outstanding.
I did not have any discussion at ECOFIN. We are appealing to the courts. I do not believe it would be appropriate to start political lobbying when it will be decided by judges.
