I have heard an awful lot in the last number of months about new politics and, already, it is becoming a bit of a tired cliche. I have not seen much evidence of it when it comes to my party and how Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have treated our approach to the Thirty-second Dáil since I have become a Member.

The Government could have taken a constructive approach to our Bill today. It could have taken a positive approach to our genuine, earnest attempt to deal with a very important issue but it chose instead to take the most negative, the most sinister interpretation it could possibly find to cast aspersions on my party in regard to our intention in bringing this Bill forward.
