The Government told Members it had secured a game-changer of a deal on bank debt but it turned out to be little more than hype. The deal on bank debt never materialised. Fine Gael and the Labour Party told families struggling with mortgage debt that their homes would be safe from the back. Instead, they diluted the rights of mortgage holders and made repossessions quicker and easier.
