Spring Economic Statement (Resumed)
4:00 pm
Jan O'Sullivan (Limerick City, Labour) | Oireachtas source
It has been the Government’s priority to get people back to work. By getting people back to work, we are obviously improving their lives and those of their families, along with providing opportunities in their communities. We are also ensuring there is a larger tax take because more people are working. That allows us to fund public services and, for example, provide funding for public housing construction.
Deputy Ruth Coppinger spoke about the number of houses built during the boom. There was not much public housing constructed then under the previous Government. We are now turning that around as well.
