Over the past four years, the Government has worked night and day to cement our economic recovery. As Ministers have made clear over the past 24 hours, we will not put that at risk over the next five years. Instead, we will continue to manage our finances sensibly while investing in our social and economic recovery. For my part, I am committed to ensuring that economic recovery leads to greater investment in education. I was particularly glad to hear the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Deputy Brendan Howlin, prioritise the need for investment in education in his statement yesterday. He pointed out we have actually built more schools and school buildings during the difficult economic circumstances which we have had to deal with over the past several years than were built during the entire boom.
