If ever there was a telling sign that a Government and a Minister was under pressure, one only had to listen to the Minister's contribution. He gave a great lecture on Sinn Féin. On the motion before the Dáil which is to be discussed by all Members of the Legislature, not once did he give a reason or outline the rationale the Government would not support amending the Constitution to enshrine a right to water. Instead, he tried to score political points across the Chamber about what we had said about the Government. Our comment was simple - that the public did not trust it.
