Water Sector Reforms: Motion (Resumed)
2:40 pm
Brian Stanley (Laois-Offaly, Sinn Fein) | Oireachtas source
As the meters are now redundant, while some welcome the changes and hope the Government will take the next logical step and abolish the charges, nothing will be done to promote conservation. If the logic of water charges and metering was to encourage people to use less water and take measures to prevent wastage, what incentive does a flat charge create for conservation? It seems people will pay more or less the same amount, whether they use two cups of water a day or fill a swimming pool every day.
